A bit about Melanie:
In her collaborations with clients, Melanie plays with the rawness of life, with soil, and through her fingertips she brings to life physical shapes that communicate, without words, a feeling. She was eighteen when she stepped into a studio of a sculptor and began learning her way, as a model first, into sculpture. Her sculptures remind us that there is beauty even in the mundane and simple things.
What inspires you, Melanie?
‘I think our existence is a curious thing. Creating sculpture feels so completely natural to me, like drinking water from cupped hands. A perfect design and expression. Like an apple, or the way wasps make nests from the mud. I am taking the dirt and creating a visual poem about us and our lives. I am guided by the shapes of nature, in the sea shell, in the shape of our silhouettes, the twist in a tree's roots, the shoulders of a mountain. These are the shapes I am in love with. In these shapes I develop a deeper understanding of our place in this universe.’
